Susan Carr writes:
Painting never lies. It simply tells the truth in ways that are magical, mysterious and baffling. Painting is healing, rewarding, hopeful and necessary in this world, especially now. In my work, I strive to tell the truth as I know it. I seek liminality, the shadow play of color, beauty, bright spaces, and I always honor the process no matter where it goes. Painting is my cathedral, and the act of working my prayer. I hope to add love and joy into the world with my work, as both are desperately needed. I am very grateful to be able to paint, sculpt and show my work, and to add my voice to all of the other artists working today.
Susan Carr graduated from The School of The Museum of Fine Arts Boston at Tufts University, earning an MFA in 2003. She received the James Page Fund Fifth Year Award in 1996 at SFMA/TUFTS, and a BFA there in 1994. Carr works on Cape Cod, where she paints in her basement and does ceramics at Cotuit Center for the Arts. Sick of the devil is Susan Carr's eighth and final solo exhibition at LABspace. Carr's work has been exhibited at Morgan Lehman Gallery in NYC, Borghi Gallery in Sag Harbor, The Painting Center in NYC, Alexey Von Schlippe Gallery at University of Connecticut, MEPAINTSME in NYC, Pocket Utopia in NYC, Steven Harvey Fine Arts in NYC, Ortega Y Gasset Projects in NYC, The Trophy Gallery in LA, and internationally at L21 Gallery in Palma Spain, and Tinimini Room in Sweden.
