We remain hopeful for justice to prevail in the outcome of this election. We are extending Susan Carr’s solo exhibition In My Room at LABspace for an extra week to give us all a little more time with Susan’s uplifting work.  Closing Weekend is now Sat & Sun, Nov 14 & 15th, 1-5pm. There are many beautiful works still available at incredibly generous prices, so please come for a visit this weekend or next. We have been thrilled to share this extraordinary body of work that brings joy to so many. Thank you Sue, and thank you friends! Visit us at Collar Works in Troy NY this final weekend to see SpaceLAB, an exhibition of 3D work from 31 area artists, now extended through Sunday! Ellen & Julie will be there this Sunday October 18th, 12-4pm to say hi and give you a tour. SpaceLAB is a labyrinth of unexpected sculptural work, activating the walls, ceiling, and floor of this magnificent space, as well as site-specific installations. On view are artists working in a wide range of materials— wood, fiber, ceramic, metal, cardboard, paper-mache, stone, plexiglass, found objects, and more. We have been thrilled to showcase this immersive survey of surprising sculptural work that escapes easy categorization, being made in our own backyard. Collar Works is an exceptional resource for artists and art-lovers in the area, and all sales go 100% to the artists. Susan Carr:  In My Room Opens Sat & Sun Sept 12 & 13th 1-5pm Please join us for the event we’ve been waiting for all year— Susan Carr’s 2nd solo exhibition at LABspace, In My Room. Susan began painting for this show the day she returned home from delivering her previous solo to us, 18 months ago. In My Room was meant to open a year later, April 2020.  While initially heartbreaking, the eventual 6-month delay (due to Covid) ultimately allowed Susan to continue working each day toward this exhibit. The result is a breathtaking collection of nearly 100 paintings, ceramics, painted wood constructions, soft sculptures, and drawings.  We are thrilled to share Susan’s extraordinary work with you, joyously reopening our fall season. We welcome all visitors safely, with masks and appropriate distancing. Huge thank you to Susan Carr for your dedication, patience, and this exquisite body of work. Hello friends! We hope you and your loved ones are staying healthy and sane these days. We haven’t written in a while and have some updates for you! Thanks to your boundless generosity, LABspace has been able to support artists we love, and to help raise money for some great organizations throughout this uncertain and stressful time. YOU— our thriving community of artists and art lovers— have collectively raised over $7600 for Black Visions Collective, The Loveland Foundation, Black Women’s Blueprint, Trans Justice Funding Project, and more inspiring funds that make a positive impact every day. We have been thrilled to help facilitate these donations through artwork sales on our LABspace Instagram page, and we continue to do so. We hope to reach $10,000 in donations, details below on how to support this goal. Thank you all so much for the love that you have shown! Hello friends!   It’s been a while! We hope you and your loved ones are staying safe and healthy. We’ve been hustling to keep LABspace going as a functioning IRL artist-run space... and it’s working! Thanks to your generous support, we are able to keep our physical space for the foreseeable future, which is a HUGE accomplishment in these uncertain times. We are blown away by your collective kindness. Dozens of unsolicited artwork donations have flooded in, and we are also selling work at our usual (or a slightly reduced) commission, which helps LABspace AND the artists we love. Many of you have collected work from us during this time and we are so grateful. We are dreaming up new ways to exhibit artists, and for you to see inspiring artwork safely from home, and safely at LABspace. 3. Throughout this health crisis, I’ve been struggling to find a way to make sense of everything. Fueled by frustration, I began painting all the envelopes that have come to LABspace from all of you over the past two years. My goal is to make and sell 100 envelopes for 50 bucks each. I post new envelopes on myInstagram nearly every day. Painting them has become a therapeutic experience, and continues to help fund the gallery. You can read more about it on Etty Yaniv’s blog, Art Spiel. Her Artists on Coping series has been a balm in these anxious days.
